WasteNot Compost & Sola Gratia Farm Partner On Compost Drop-Off Program In Urbana, IL
New Compost Drop-Off Site @ The Community Classroom at Sola Gratia Farm
WasteNot Compost and Sola Gratia Farm have partnered to bring a compost drop-off point to The Community Classroom at Sola Gratia Farm.
The year-round program makes composting more accessible and convenient for Champaign-Urbana residents and Sola Gratia Farm’s CSA members, volunteers and partners. Participating residents will be able to bring all of their food scrap waste (including meat, bones, and solid dairy), 100% paper products, and certified compostable products to the site located in the shared parking lot at 2200 S Philo Rd, Urbana, IL 61802. WasteNot will regularly empty the compost drop-off enclosure and ensure the material is turned into finished compost - a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Access to the drop-off site costs $15/month.
“As a community-based farm, a partnership with WasteNot to provide a convenient composting option is a no-brainer. Our farm is an active space with hundreds of people visiting weekly to volunteer, pick up vegetable shares, donate garden surplus through our community cooler or enjoy time in The Community Classroom. We’re thrilled to support transforming food waste into food for soil!” said Traci Barkley, Director of Sola Gratia Farm.
WasteNot Compost will provide high-quality collection service for the drop-off point with their fully electric fleet of vehicles and exemplary customer service. The program officially launched on May 21st with registration now open. Interested residents can learn more about sign up at wastenotcompost.com/urbana.

Recently, Sola Gratia Farm converted their original four acres into a teaching farm called The Community Classroom with areas for special projects, workshops, learning gardens and a perennial forest garden including fruit and nut trees. The newly developed farm space is open dawn until dusk and hosts free or affordable workshops for children and adults to learn about the farming production process through hands-on weeding, gardening and harvesting.
