Sign up here to join the McHenry County compost drop-off network and choose your site. You will receive an email and invite to your WasteNot account after signing up.
Your participation will help to divert compostable waste from landfills.

Get Access
Once you sign up, you can bring your compostables to the drop-off point you choose. Empty your waste at the site and our team will collect and compost the material.

Here’s everything you need to know about what can be composted in McHenry County.

If it has ever been alive, you can compost it! All food scraps (even meat and bones!) can be safely composted in your WasteNot receptacle of choice.

Pizza boxes, paper towels, and any 100% paper products are compostable with WasteNot.

Look for “certified compostable” when looking to see if your plastic products can be composted. Avoid composting products that advertise as “biodegradable” or “plant-based” without explicit mention of compostable certification.

Just a few things! Pet droppings, excessive liquids, plastics (including wrappers), metals, and glass can’t be composted.
