PARTNER HIGHLIGHT: Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRX)

CCRX is a local nonprofit that redistributes donated surplus materials, equipment, and supplies to keep them out of the landfill.

Through CCRX, yard signs collected will be reused by local educators and organizations whenever possible.

What Happens To Yard Signs That Can’t Be Reused?

Yard signs are made of corrugated plastic - usually made from polypropylene or polyethylene. Yard signs that cannot be reused will be brought to plastic recyclers that melt down the material to process into recycled plastic feedstock, mainly in the form of pellets or regrind, which can be used to manufacture new products.

  • You can request a yard sign collection through the WasteNot Shop! Simply add a collection to your order and place your yard sign(s) our with your compost bucket on your next service day.

  • Currently, all residential WasteNot members are eligible for our Yard Sign Collection. We are not able to collect items from non-members at this time.

  • This service is an add-on to your current compost service. You can select a one-time collection through the WasteNot Shop.

  • We are accepting standard yard signs with metal stakes for this collection.

  • WasteNot prioritizes bringing yard signs collected through this service to the Chicago Creative Reuse Exchange for reuse by local educators and organizations.

  • For any yard signs that cannot be reused, WasteNot works with regional plastic recyclers to ensure yard signs do not end up in landfills.

    Signs can be recycled into other plastic products when handled properly by other plastic recyclers.
