Riverside Launches Curbside Compost Collection In Partnership With WasteNot

At the November 16, 2023, Village Board meeting, Riverside Trustees approved a contract with WasteNot, Inc. as a new curbside compost collection hauler for homes, businesses, and schools. WasteNot Compost will provide high-quality, subscription collection services with their fully electric fleet of vehicles and exemplary customer service to Riverside residents.

The opportunity of this year-round service will make composting more accessible and convenient for Riverside residents. Participating residents receive an airtight 5-gallon compost receptacle where participants can place a wide variety of compostables including all food waste, 100% paper products, certified compostable products, and more. Depending on needs, a weekly or bi-weekly service is offered. Additionally, WasteNot will use a “receptacle swap” strategy, which includes replacing used receptacles with a clean, sanitized container each service.

According to Ashley Monroe, Riverside Assistant Village Manager, “This is a very exciting program because although the Village’s current curbside yard waste collection service allows for the addition of food waste, this additional service offered by WasteNot will enable residents in single-family and rented households to compost year-round if they choose.”

The service will also be offered to commercial businesses, schools, nonprofits, events and multi-family buildings in Riverside. Learn more about the service and register here.
